Dr. Cecil Bennett earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Syracuse University before receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from Morehouse School of Medicine. During his fourth year of medical school, he was elected President of the Student Government Association, demonstrating an early commitment to leadership, advocacy, and service.
Dr. Bennett completed his residency in Family Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine, where he was selected to serve as Chief Resident during his final year. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has maintained his certification throughout his distinguished career.
A respected physician, educator, and healthcare leader, Dr. Bennett has served on the Morehouse School of Medicine Board of Trustees and previously held the position of Associate Dean of Medical Education at Washington Adventist University. He currently serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine, where he continues to mentor and educate future physicians.
Appointed by Governor Brian Kemp, Dr. Bennett serves on the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce, which evaluates the healthcare needs of every county across Georgia and oversees state funding recommendations for Georgia's medical schools and residency training programs.
Dr. Bennett made history as the inaugural President and Chairman of the Board of Xavier University School of Medicine in Aruba. Under his foundational leadership, the institution has graduated hundreds of physicians who now practice primary care throughout the United States.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bennett has held numerous leadership positions, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and the Membership Commission of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has also twice been recognized as the "Doctor of the Day" for the Georgia General Assembly at the Georgia State Capitol.
In addition to his civilian medical career, Dr. Bennett proudly served in the Georgia National Guard during Operation Desert Storm as an Ambulance Platoon Leader. For his military service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with the rank of Captain in the Medical Corps.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Dr. Bennett is a Christian, husband, and father. He and his wife, Andrea, have been married for more than 35 years and are the proud parents of three children all Georgia educated: Danielle, The University of Georgia who serves as an elementary school counselor; Matthew, Georgia Southern University who works in marketing; and Alyssa, Point University who is a middle school teacher.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bennett has remained committed to advancing medical education, strengthening healthcare access, mentoring future physicians, and serving his community with excellence, integrity, and compassion.
